Rosemary essential oil is one of my most utilized essential oils, and is beneficial in so many ways.
I use it daily for multiple purposes, such as a hair conditioner, a facial cleanser, a mouthwash, a way to combat anxiety, and even as a pesticide in my garden.
It turns out, I am not alone in enjoying rosemary. Historically, the rosemary plant was considered sacred by numerous cultures. Branches and leaves of rosemary were burned as incense, as its high content of essential oil created a superbly fragrant smoke. The potent smoke supposedly was used as a fumigant to drive away evil spirits and to protect against plague and infectious illness. It also was used as a healing herb and as a traditional culinary favorite.
Today, the essential oil is steam distilled from the rosemary plant and has a powerful effect as one of the freshest and most pungent essential oils. Its aroma is instantly youthful and deliciously herbaceous with camphorous, woody-balsamic and evergreen undertones.

It is said that rosemary essential oil will awaken the fire of creativity in your heart, encouraging inspiration. It will ignite your passion for life and will help give you the vision to follow your path bravely.
I have made a practice of using rosemary essential oil daily and over time have come up with some incredible homemade ideas and recipes.
1. Homemade hair conditioners for greasy hair, dry hair, hair loss and dandruff
Rosemary essential oil will enhance the overall condition of your hair. It can be used alone with sweet almond oil to condition and to promote healthy hair growth. I use sweet almond oil as the base carrier oil because it is nutrient rich. Other essential oils can be added to the mix to create recipes for specific conditions. You will want to add 5 drops of essential oil per 1 fl oz. of carrier oil. Double the ratio for longer or thicker hair. Massage the mixture into your scalp and evenly through your dry hair. Towel wrap, and leave in for five minutes or longer before rinsing.

2. Relieve the symptoms of anxiety
Anxiety is caused by everyday stresses and strains, demands, upsets and worries of life. The symptoms range from nervousness, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat and tense muscles, to insomnia, low resistance and then depression. Essential oils can help with anxiety by reducing negative feelings, relaxing the mind and body and soothing both mood and emotions.

I have found rosemary essential oil to be perfect for reducing my symptoms of anxiety.
To help release tension and nervousness, place a few drops of rosemary essential oil onto a tissue and deeply inhale for several minutes. You can easily carry a small vial around with you during the day and at the slightest onset of anxiety, take a timeout to inhale the calming fragrance.
There are other ways to use it:
Aromatherapy with an Air Diffuser or Vaporizer
Find an electric vaporizer or eiffuser and add water with a few drops of rosemary essential oil. A traditional oil burner with a candle will also vaporize the essential oil into the air.
Add to steaming bath water
Several drops of rosemary essential oil added to your bath water will cause the steam to vaporize the essential oil into the air, allowing for a calming and uplifting scent to fill your bath area. The added essential oil will also absorb into your skin this way, resulting in a calming effect and will relieve tense muscles. Light a few candles to create a peaceful ambiance in your bath area.
3. Clear your mind, reduce mental fatigue, enhance your memory, and stimulate the central nervous system
Rosemary essential oil can help reduce mental fatigue by stimulating the central nervous system. Studies show that rosemary essential oil enhances memory, clears the head, and aids the thought process.
I find these recipes to be extremely helpful:
Revive Mental Clarity and Reduce Fatigue

- 4 drops rosemary essential oil
- 2 drops peppermint essential oil
- 4 drops grapefruit essential oil
Renew Enthusiasm for your Work or Studies

Arthritis is the painful swelling, inflammation and stiffness of the joints. Rosemary essential oil is anti-inflammatory, so it can help relieve the symptoms. Rosemary essential oil is also an analgesic and a warming oil. It will soothe and warm sore muscles.

5. Use as a natural facial cleanser
Rosemary essential oil is a natural face cleanser because of its antibacterial and antioxidant properties. You can use rosemary essential oil neat, without diluting it, in small quantities. If you find that it does irritate your skin, dilute with castor oil or coconut oil. Add a drop or two onto a cotton round and wipe in an upward motion. It will unclog your pores, kill existing bacteria, and keep new bacteria from growing. The antioxidant properties will improve the overall condition of your skin.
6. Use as an all-natural, homemade mouthwash
Alcohol-based mouthwashes dry and upset the delicate balance of the good bacteria found inside your mouth. A homemade mouthwash using rosemary essential oil is both gentle and more effective.

Commercial pesticides are full of harmful chemicals even if the label says that they are not. They are bad for the environment, your health and for your garden. I have created a mixture that will kill pests and will stop the growth of fungus on your garden plants. By using a natural pesticide, you can ensure the healthy eating of your favorite garden veggies.
