Kosmos 482 is “highly likely” to survive re-entry in one piece as it was built to be hardy enough to withstand Venus’s dense atmosphere.

The Russian technology – which weighs a whopping 500kg – has been circling in orbit around Earth ever since a disastrous launch on March 31, 1972 ruined the project and turned it into useless space debris.

Its eventual demise and return to the surface of our planet has been expected for a long time but previous estimates placed the landing between 2023 and 2025.

Socialist Bernie Sanders Rides Private Jets Like A Pompous Rock Star

Despite his public views on climate change, self-proclaimed socialist and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders rides private jets. In fact, Sanders’ private jet rides have cost $342,000 over the last two years alone.

Moreover, the only way Hillary Clinton could get Sanders to campaign for her in 2016 was to give Bernie rides on private jets. However, a spokesperson for the U.S. Senator from Vermont claims the private jets were necessary to get Sanders to campaign appearances.

In addition, Sanders’ private jet rides upset former Clinton staffers, Politico claims. Notably, the Clinton staffers tried to get Sanders to fly commercial, but the Senator insisted on private jets.

“His Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders would only deign to leave his plush D.C. office or his brand new second home on the lake if he was flown around on a cushy private jet like a billionaire master of the universe,” Clinton campaign official Zac Petkanas alleges.

Socialist Sanders Rides Private Jets At Others’ Expense

Additionally, Bernie’s private jet rides cost the Clinton campaign $100,000 apiece, Politico asserts.

To elaborate, the only way Clinton could get people to attend her campaign events was to have Sanders speak. Conversely, Sanders’ staff members claim that Bernie could not reach the campaign appearances on commercial flights.

Meanwhile, Sanders is still flying on private jets at others’ expense. For instance, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) spent $157,000 hauling Sanders on an April 2017 “Unity Tour,” Politico charges.

Notwithstanding, Sanders’ political action committee paid the DNC back part of the money. Specifically, Sanders’ committee is paying the DNC $100,000 back out of the original $157,000.

Sanders Rides Private Jets For 2020 Campaign

Furthermore, Bernie’s private jet rides will continue during his 2020 presidential campaign.

Sanders “will be flying commercial whenever possible” in 2020,” spokeswoman Ariana Jones states. Nonetheless, Jones also admits that Sanders will fly on private jets in 2020. Particularly, Jones uses the euphemism “charter flights” to describe Bernie’s private jet rides.

Oddly enough, 77-year-old Bernie Sanders is the junior U.S. Senator from Vermont who calls himself an “independent” and a “democratic socialist.” Nevertheless, Sanders is still running for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In particular, Sanders will launch his 2020 presidential campaign this weekend in Burlington, Vermont. He is a staunch critic of income inequality and what he calls the “Billionaire Class.”

Sanders Rides Private Jets To His $575,000 Lakeside Home

When he is not fighting for the common man, Sanders lives in luxury. As an illustration, Sanders and his wife spent $575,000 for a second lakeside home in North Hero, Vermont in 2018.

All in all, Sanders owns three homes and yet he plans a $2.2 trillion tax increase. Furthermore, Sanders is proposing a 77% tax on billionaires’ estates. Sanders maintains that Uncle Sam will ultimately collect $2.2 trillion through the tax, which will allegedly affect only 500 people.

Sanders also proposes a 45% tax on estates worth over $3.5 million and a 50% tax on estates worth anywhere from $10 million to $50 million, The HuffPost reports. In addition, Sanders wants a 55% tax on estates worth over $55 million.

Even so, many people support Bernie despite his tax plans and private jet flights. In fact, Politico claims that Sanders brought in $5.9 million in donations on the first day of his campaign.

Sanders Plans To Spend, Spend, Spend

Sanders has numerous plans for spending all the extra taxes he plans to collect.

The Sanders agenda includes Medicare for All (free healthcare), free college for all Americans, and a $15 minimum wage, Vice reports. Moreover, Sanders is a strong supporter of the $93 trillion Green New Deal which will spend tax money to replace all fossil fuels with “green energy.”

Sanders, though, will have a tough fight in 2020 because other Democrats are copying his agenda. For example, U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-California), whom oddsmakers consider the Democratic frontrunner, supports Medicare for All and a basic income for most Americans.

Additionally, U.S. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) and Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) support a jobs guarantee. Under a jobs guarantee, the government will give every American a high-paying government job.

In short, Sanders’ private jet rides are hardly unique. The Democratic presidential field is full of socialists who ride in private jets and want to raise taxes at the same time.

How To Make A Survival Fishing Kit That Will Last

The following post How To Make A Survival Fishing Kit That Will Last is available on Total Survival

How To Make A Survival Fishing Kit That Will Last Follow Me on Pinterest

How To Make A Survival Fishing Kit That Will Last Follow Me on Pinterest While having a food stockpile is the most important and effective strategy for ensuring you and your family don’t go hungry during a major crisis, being able to acquire food after the fact is very important as well. With that in mind, fishing is one of the most efficient means of putting food on the table in a disaster scenario.

On the whole, there are far more locations with fish than there are locations with game animals that can be hunted. Fishing is also less time consuming than hunting and requires a little less skill. Best of all, a small fishing kit is something that can be easily packed in your bugout bag, enabling you to acquire food on the move without being weighed down by bulky supplies.

Want to save this post for later? Click Here to Pin It on Pinterest!

However, fishing does require a certain amount of gear if you want to be successful. Since fishing gear may be difficult or even impossible to acquire after a disaster has struck, it’s a good idea to put together a survival fishing kit right now while supplies are plentiful.

In this article, we’ll explain how to create an effective survival fishing kit that will still be usable if the time ever comes where your survival depends on catching fish.

The Shelf-Life of Fishing Gear

Creating a survival fishing kit is not as simple as it might seem. Buying a pole and a tackle box full of lures may be enough to set you up for a successful fishing trip next weekend, but those supplies may no longer be usable several years from now.

Many types of fishing line have a shelf-life and will weaken over time, eventually to the point that the line becomes unusable. The same is true for lures, which can melt, rot, and rust over time. Of course, live bait has an incredibly short shelf-life and really can’t be stored at all.

When putting together a survival fishing kit, it is essential to keep in mind the fact that you may be storing these supplies for many years before the time comes where you need to use them. The good news is this: if you select the right gear and store it properly, it is possible to create a kit that has a nearly indefinite shelf-life.

Items to Include in a Survival Fishing Kit

While it’s true that fish can be caught using something as simple as a piece of string and a hook made out of a paperclip, doing so is certainly not easy. Even in plentiful waters, catching fish is not guaranteed, meaning you will want to have every advantage possible at your disposal.

To make your fishing kit as effective as possible, here are the items you will want to include:

Braided Line

We’ve mentioned already that some types of fishing line last longer than others. Unlike monofilament line, braided line has a nearly indefinite shelf-life and will not grow weaker over time, making it the only choice for a survival fishing kit.

SpiderWire is one company that offers very high-quality braided line, and their line can be purchased on Amazon.

An Assortment of Hooks

One common mistake you want to avoid when putting together your survival fishing kit is only including hooks of one size. The hook size that will work best depends on the species of fish that you are targeting. Since you may not know what type of fish you will be trying to catch at any given time, it’s a good idea to include an assortment of hook sizes in your kit.

If in doubt about what hook size to use, go with a smaller hook. Large fish can be caught on small hooks, but small fish cannot be caught on large hooks. With that said, having a range of hook sizes available to choose from is still the best approach.

Fishing hook assortments that contain a range of hook sizes such as this one make it easy to acquire a wide range of hook sizes in a single, convenient package.

Weights

Weights can be used to ensure that your bait gets to the right depth. Even more importantly, though, weights make it possible to cast lightweight bait a longer distance. A worm on a hook with no weight is simply not heavy enough to cast very far. If there’s any wind, you may not be able to cast it all. With a weight attached to your line, though, this isn’t an issue.

Like hooks, weights come in a range of sizes, and purchasing an assortment like this one is your best bet.

Needle Nose Pliers

Needle nose pliers are an essential tool for any fishing trip, and they can serve a number of purposes. One of the most common scenarios where needle nose pliers will come in handy is if you are having difficulties getting the hook out of a fish’s mouth. If the fish swallows the bait or is otherwise hooked deep in the mouth, getting the hook out without pliers can be quite difficult.

Needle nose pliers can also be used for straightening hooks, crimping split shot weights onto your line, cutting your line, and more. Given that needle nose pliers are small and inexpensive, there’s no reason not to include a pair in your survival fishing kit.

Lures

Not all fish will bite a lure. Catfish, for example, are attracted mostly by smell and will often ignore lures entirely. However, there are plenty of fish species that will bite lures, and some fish such as bass and crappie are easier to catch on lures than most anything else.

Having an assortment of lures in your survival fishing kit means you will always be able to fish even if you aren’t able to find worms, small fish, or other forms of live bait. When selecting lures to include, try to take a general approach. Some lures such as spoons and small jigs can be used to catch a wide range of fish rather than being made to target a specific species, and these are the types of lures that you will want to purchase.

Strategies for Catching Fish in a Survival Scenario

Catching fish using only the supplies listed above will certainly require the right approach. You may have noticed that the list did not include a rod and reel. While certainly helpful, a fishing pole and real is simply too bulky to include in a kit that is designed for bug out scenarios. It’s a great idea to have a rod and real stashed away somewhere, but if you plan on fishing while you’re on the move, you’ll need to know how to get the job done without them.

Of course, a rod can easily be fashioned out of a small sapling or any long, narrow object. Getting a fish to the bank using this setup isn’t quite as easy as it is to bring a fish in if you have a reel, but once you’ve worn the fish down, it should be relatively simple to guide it to the bank.

However, if you are able to find live bait such as worms or a small fish that you can cut up, setting up limb lines is even more effective than making a fishing pole. All you have to do is find a limb that is hanging out over the water and tie your line to it. As long as you have the hooks, line, and bait available, you can set up as many limb lines as you want.

These limb lines do not have to be watched continuously, meaning that you can go about other tasks and check them later. Once you decide to take a limb line down, though, be careful to preserve your line and the hooks. If you set up a bunch of limb lines without recycling the fishing line, you’ll quickly blow through your supply of line.

If you are able to acquire plastic bottles such as milk jugs, you can also make use of a method called jug fishing. This method involves tying your line around the neck of a jug and throwing the jug out into the water. If a fish gets on the hook, they won’t be strong enough to pull the jug underwater for more than a few seconds. However, this strategy won’t be viable on larger bodies of water unless you have a boat, since both the wind and any fish you catch may carry the jug a long distance.

As for where to fish in a survival scenario, there’s no real way to know for sure at first glance whether a body of water has fish in it. However, there are a few signs that you can look for. You may notice fish coming to the surface of the water if you watch it for a few minutes. Noticing small bait fish swimming near the bank is also a good sign that there are larger fish in the water as well, as predators live where prey is available.

Bezos Wants To Put A Trillion Humans In Space

Bezos Wants To Put A Trillion Humans In Space was originally seen on http://totalsurvival.net

AMAZON chief Jeff Bezos dreams of creating a new space race of humans across our solar system – with a population of one trillion.

The billionaire tech mogul revealed the lofty goal during a speech about Blue Origin, his groundbreaking space transport company.

According to Bezos, who has a net worth of £103billion, increasing the population dramatically across space could give us countless creative geniuses.

“The solar system can support a trillion humans, and then we’d have 1,000 Mozarts, and 1,000 Einsteins. Think how incredible and dynamic that civilization will be,” Bezos boasted during a speech at New York’s Yale Club, which was transcribed by Business Insider.

But Bezos warned that “we don’t have forever”, and that Blue Origin is working on building a “low-cost, highly operable, reusable launch vehicle” to help fulfil his space-faring dreams.

“I really want that dynamic life and civilization for our grandchildren’s grandchildren. But we’ve got to get started.”

Bezos famously started Amazon in his garage 24 years ago, driving packages to the post office himself.

Since then, the firm has ballooned into one of the world’s most valuable companies – and even broke the $1trillion valuation milestone last year.

The Daily Mail reported that home assistants could soon report their owners to the police for breaking the law based on a “Moral A.I.” system, if the ideas of academics in Europe are implemented.

The newspaper reported that academics at the University of Bergen in Norway discussed the idea of a “moral A.I.” for smart home assistants, like the Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Apple HomePod, during a conference.

Moral A.I. would reportedly make home assistants have to “decide whether to report their owners for breaking the law,” or whether to stay silent.

The Cashless Society Will Lead To Chaos

The blog post The Cashless Society Will Lead To Chaos Find more on: Total Survival

All in all, most of us are already living in a cashless society. For example, Americans used cash for only 30% of their transactions in 2018, The Federal Reserve estimates.

The cashless society is almost here and it could lead to chaos and violence. Furthermore, many Americans could soon have no way to pay for necessities like food.

Poor people could have no way to buy food because they have no credit cards or smartphones. To elaborate, Big Retail is planning to get rid of cash registers and cashiers to save money.

In fact, Amazon is already operating 10 Go automated convenience stores that have no cash registers or cashiers, Grocery Business reports. Instead of cash, customers pay with digital wallets such as Apple Pay or Google Pay at Amazon Go. Moreover, Amazon plans to open up to 3,000 go stores by 2021, Bloomberg claims.

Big Retail Wants The Cashless Society

Big Retail wants the cashless society because it reduces expenses. For instance, Amazon does not pay cashiers at their Go stores.

In addition, Amazon needs less security at Go because there is no cash for armed robbers to take. Big Retail can also eliminate the expense of counting, storing, and hauling cash. After all, no safe, armored car, or armed guards are necessary when a store refuses to accept cash.

All in all, most of us are already living in a cashless society. For example, Americans used cash for only 30% of their transactions in 2018, The Federal Reserve estimates.

Additionally, people who do not use cash spend more. In particular, the average cash transaction was under $25 while the average credit card transaction was $67 in 2018, The Federal Reserve calculates. As a result, big retailers are readily embracing the cashless society because it increases their income while lowering their expenses.

We Are Not Prepared For The Cashless Society

Even though the cashless society is nearly here, most of us are still not ready for it.

Notably, the British government has no plan to cope with a cashless economy, Quartz reports. However, cash use is falling faster in the United Kingdom than in other countries. Specifically, the level of cash transactions in the UK could fall to 10% within 15 years.

The number of places where Britons can get cash is dwindling fast. Particularly, 70 bank branches are closing each month in the UK. Likewise, banks remove up to 300 ATMs each month in Britain.

How Cyberwarfare Threatens The Cashless Society

Ultimately, Britons could have no way to get cash if cyberwarfare or an electromagnetic pulse destroys electronic payment systems. So, most of Britain’s population would have no way to buy food after a cyber attack.

Notably, U.S. banks are already preparing for an apocalyptic cyber attack, PYMNTs.com claims. In fact, bank executives fear a cyber attack could wipe out up to 400 million bank accounts. For this reason, a cyber attack may devastate America’s cashless society.

Desperate mobs could roam cities and the countryside looking for food or gasoline. Furthermore, businesses and the government would shut down if employees are unpaid.

Get Ready For The Cashless Society And Chaos

Everybody needs to prepare for the cashless society because it is coming fast. Moreover, events overseas show that you will have no choice but to go cashless.

For example, most banks and many businesses in Sweden no longer even accept cash. In addition, parking lots and vending machines no longer accept cash in Sweden either.

Meanwhile, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) plans to punish businesses that refuse to accept cash payments. A PBOC press release warned merchants that it is illegal not to accept cash.

The PBOC is threatening merchants because of complaints about businesses forcing customers to pay electronically, The South China Morning Post states. In detail, the PBOC is China’s central bank and the equivalent of America’s Federal Reserve.

In the final analysis, a cashless society is almost here and everybody must prepare for it regardless of current circumstances.

Stockpiling For Winter: How To Survive If The Electricity Goes Out

Stockpiling For Winter: How To Survive If The Electricity Goes Out Read more on: http://totalsurvival.net/

winter survival

Winter months present a unique challenge in many parts of North America due to freezing temperatures. In fact, no other season is as deadly if the electricity goes out. So how do you prepare to survive the cold season? What should you stockpile? And if you’re tied to the electric grid, what do you do if the power goes out?

Heat is the Key

If there is no electric power you can always assume you’ll have gas. But many gas appliances from furnaces and water heaters to gas ranges have electric components. They also have compressors that are electric powered to force the air through your home. You could always light a gas range cook top with a match or flame, but don’t assume for a minute it can serve as a heat source unless you’re absolutely desperate. You can put some cast iron over the gas range cook top to act as a heat conductor after you have switched off the gas, but it’s not going to add much heat to you home.

If you have a fireplace, it can certainly help you stay warm. But be forewarned. Ninety percent of your heat is going up the chimney with the smoke. A fireplace will heat a room, maybe two. It will not heat a whole house. You can close-off sections of your house, but you’ll discover very quickly that a fireplace is a highly localized and inefficient heat source.

Heating Solutions

Buy a small cast-iron stove that you can quickly install into your fireplace. You’ll have to attach a stove pipe that exhausts up the flue, and some heavy duty aluminum foil affixed with foil tape to seal off the flue. Once you’ve done that, your cast iron stove will be a heat exchanger that will add significantly more heat than a traditional fire in a fireplace.

You could also have a wood-burning stove installed in your home to not only supplement your heating while on-the-grid, but to serve in an emergency off-the-grid.

Keep in mind that just because you have an efficient word-burning stove it doesn’t mean it will heat your entire home. It’s all a question of square footage and the design of your home, as well as the size and number of wood-burning stoves inside. While some people have installed “whole-house” wood-burning solutions, most people have just one wood-burning alternative.

Keeping a two-story home warm is the most challenging. Heat rises and cold descends. If the temperature outside is zero degrees, your house will quickly equalize to that temperature. A single, wood burning stove in the fireplace will not efficiently heat a two-story home. The temperature will rise, but you’ll be lucky to have an average temperature above freezing across your home.

As a result, you may have to rethink your living and sleeping arrangements during a particularly cold weather. Your first step is to abandon the second story. Close all of the doors upstairs and try to block off any hallways with a sheet that is tightly suspended or tacked around the wood framing to the hallway. You also might want to consider closing off rooms that are not critical, like a formal dining room.

A Special Note About Kerosene Heaters

Kerosene heaters give off significant amounts of carbon monoxide. You could always place one in the fireplace in place of a wood-burning fire, but unless you close off the flue to some degree and carefully vent the kerosene heater you’ll lose more heat up the flue than you generate.

winter survival

winter survival

Putting a kerosene heater in proximity to a fireplace could also encourage venting of the carbon monoxide. But manage it carefully and if you feel dizzy, nauseous or have a headache, know that you may be succumbing to carbon monoxide poisoning. If you have children, they will be affected more quickly due to being smaller.

Avoiding Frozen Pipes

If you cut off heat to the second floor of your home for any length of time, you’ll want to drain the water from sinks, toilets, showers and bath tubs throughout the house. Without electricity you probably won’t have running water and will be depending on local water supplies, your stockpile of water, or melted snow and ice.

You can still flush a toilet without running water. You just have to fill the toilet tank with sufficient water to effectively flush. This is a good argument for keeping a constant supply of melted snow or ice on hand in a large 5-gallon bucket or two.

Cooking Off-The-Grid

Without electricity you’ll find cooking to be a continuing challenge especially in winter. There’s a remote possibility that a gas range may function, but you’ll need to light the flame manually.

You also can cook in your fireplace or on the surface of a wood burning stove. Make sure you have an ample supply of cast-iron cookware on hand including covered pots like a Dutch Oven. Some people use a corner of the fireplace for cooking with a metal grate to support a pot or pan.

You also have the option of cooking over an open fire in the backyard or a kettle grill stocked with wood that has burned down to coals that are manageable for cooking. This is a cold proposition depending on outside temps, but if you have a covered grill you can hurry inside while the food is cooking outside. Here again, consider the cooking equipment you might need to cook a variety of dishes and meal types outside.

Bedding and Clothing

It’s obvious that winter clothing makes sense in winter but there are some items you want to make sure you consider. One is sometimes referred to as a “night-cap” and no, it’s not an evening cocktail. If you’ve ever slept in a tent in the winter you know how cold your head can become. In fact, we lose 40 percent of our body heat through our heads. You might want to consider sleeping with hat on.

Bedding should be ample with extra blankets, quilts or sleeping bags. If you’re sleeping on the floor in a family room or on a couch, having extra blankets on hand can not only keep you warm, but accommodate friends and family that may have joined you because they don’t have a fireplace or wood-burning stove.

Lighting

In addition to the cold, it’s also darker in many parts of the world during winter. Candles are a primary consideration along with a few lanterns that burn a clean oil.

There are also flashlights that are cranked by hand to provide a light source without batteries. If you are going to depend on battery-powered flashlights to any degree, consider a solar recharger. Remember, however, sunny days in the winter are short and might be few and far between.

Laundry as a Humidifier

winter survival

winter survival

Laundry is a tough one in winter without electricity and ample supplies of water. Your primary focus should be on laundering socks and underwear and any other clothing that is obviously soiled.

These Solar Backup Generators Deliver 4 Times More Power Than Other Models!

A benefit of doing laundry in the house and hanging it to dry is the humidity that it creates. Just like on a hot summer day, the humidity will make you feel warmer. And if you are heating with wood you may find the laundry drying surprisingly fast due to the dryness of the air.

If you need humidity and the laundry is done, you can always use some dowels to support a towel in a 5-gallon plastic bucket filled with water. The towel should emerge above the water level to some degree and will act as a wick to add humidity to the air.

Creating a Winter Stockpile

If you want to prepare for a winter off-the-grid, you need to figure out some basics. One is the number of people you think you will be housing. This could go beyond your immediate family as extended family members seek shelter in a location with basic resources they may be lacking.

Here’s a checklist to serve as a reminder. It may vary depending on your circumstances and already assumes you have ample supplies of food and drinking water:

  • A wood-burning stove with the necessary equipment to install it in a fireplace, including stove pipes, foil and foil tape, along with an ash bucket and ash shovel.
  • Sufficient firewood to heat throughout the winter
  • A kerosene heater if you can properly vent it. Make sure to have enough fuel, replacement wicks and filters to keep it operating.
  • Lumbering tools for harvesting and stocking additional firewood.
  • Cooking equipment and utensils for cooking on a wood stove, open fire or kettle grill.
  • Sufficient candles, lanterns, lantern oil and flashlight options that are hand-powered or solar-powered, along with sufficient fire-starting materials like matches and lighters.
  • Up to a dozen, 5-gallon plastic buckets for water collection of snow and ice and other needs.
  • Sufficient winter clothing for you, your family and others who may join you.
  • Sufficient bedding in the form of blankets, pillows, quilts and sleeping bags, plus sheets that also can be used to temporarily seal off hallways and stairways.
  • Soap for washing and laundry.
  • Rope to hang laundry to dry and act as a humidifying agent.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but it’s a good start. The key is to stop and anticipate your needs and do some estimates so you have enough on hand to get through winter and early spring.

What would you add to this list? Share your suggestions in the section below:

84 Million Americans Are Now Under High Wind Warnings Or Advisories

The article 84 Million Americans Are Now Under High Wind Warnings Or Advisories was originally published on http://totalsurvival.net/

Dangerous winds are sweeping across the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast Monday, threatening to topple trees, cut power and cause travel headaches for tens of millions of Americans.

“A strengthening storm across southeastern Canada has brought strong westerly winds to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday. Wind gusts between 50-65 mph continue to impact these regions, leading to a plethora of issues in a variety of industries. Downed trees and power lines have led to power outages across the I-95 corridor, strong winds have forced ski resorts in the Northeast to close their summit access, and strong surface winds have made air travel difficult. Winds are expected to slowly slacken Monday evening and overnight into Tuesday. While this week largely looks seasonable or slightly below normal, more cold and possibly cold and snow is expected in this region of the country into the first half of March,” reported Meteorologist and owner of Empire Weather LLC., Ed Vallee.

Strong wind gusts of 50 to 65 mph have been reported in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area and Tri-state region as a cold front slams into the Northeast.
