So here’s an interesting topic that I almost never hear preppers discussing: How do you deal with unwanted traffic to your street or neighborhood during a long-term grid-down scenario?

Imagine you and some neighbors live in a cul-de-sac and are all hunkering down, trying to ride out the disaster until help arrives or things return to normal. You want to make sure that gangs of looters don’t come driving down your street, looking for houses to rob.

To do this, you have to make it difficult–if not impossible–for vehicles to drive down your road. And for that, you’ll need some kind of roadblock or barricade.

Now, to be honest, a barricade could make some looters wonder if you are hiding some very valuable supplies, and it could tempt them into approaching on foot. However, the vast majority of the time, looters are just ordinary people who want to go after the low-hanging fruit, so they will probably move on to a street with few or new barriers.

Besides, even if they approach on foot, that gives you more time to prepare for their arrival (assuming someone is standing guard).

So how exactly do you block vehicles from driving down your road or driveway? That’s the topic of this video by Reality Survival. Here’s what he came up with:

1. Cut down some trees.
2. Cut down telephone poles.
3. Put up construction signs.
4. Lay down nails, spikes, caltrops, etc.
5. Block the road with old cars.
6. Dig some trenches.
