Get a Jump Start on Your Garden This Year
Winter will be on its way out soon and spring will be here before you know it!
If you’re like me, you like to get an early jump on gardening. Every year, around late February to early March, you start to plan everything down to the last detail. The first step towards having a productive and plentiful garden? Starting your seeds. You want to give your seedlings the best jump start you can. A DIY seedling greenhouse is a great place to start.
In this article I will share some great DIY seedling greenhouse ideas which will allow you to start your seeds indoors using items from around your home.
Egg Carton Greenhouse
This DIY seedling greenhouse is my favorite! While researching today, I found a great step by step article how you can add clear plastic wrap or clear bags to turn your egg carton seedlings into a greenhouse. You can find step by step instructions here.
2 Liter Bottle Greenhouse
Using a 2 liter bottle is another great DIY greenhouse for your seedlings! The diameter of a 2 liter bottle is a perfect fit for the extra small clay pots (as shown above) used to start your seeds. Simply cut to remove the top ⅓ of the bottle then place the 2 liter bottle over the small clay pot and voila!
Another great tip using 2 liter bottles? They make great self watering containers! You can find instructions here.
CD Spindle Case Greenhouse
Who doesn’t have one of these laying around the house? They make perfect greenhouses for your seedlings!
Basically, all you need to do with your empty CD spindle case is cut off the central column, cover up the hole in the base, drill some holes in the top cover, and add your pot and seeds. It’s that easy!
Clear Storage Tote Greenhouse
If you have warm temperatures during the day but cold nights and want to add plants to your Fall or Winter garden you can start your seedlings in small containers stored inside clear plastic totes. Take the totes outside in the morning so they can get a day’s worth of sunlight and build up cold tolerance then bring them inside at night.
