Things you need!

  • sunflower seeds
  • pencil

Let’s start!

  • Sunflower season is mid-spring to late summer
  • Sunlight is absolutely vital to Sunflower growth, so before digging away, be sure that the location you choose for your sunflowers has plenty of sunlight.
  • Make sure your soil drains very well. Sunflowers are very resilient but the one thing that can cause them damage is flooded soil.
  • Sunflowers are heavy feeders, plant them in soil that is nutrient rich with organic matter or composted manure
  • Sunflowers do not require fertilizing but due to their fast growing nature, adding slow release fertilizer to particularly poor, thin soil is helpful.

Step 1 : Dig

Use a pencil to dig holes for each of your seeds. Try to make the holes around 1-inch deep and 6-inches apart.

Step 2 : Plant

Plant one sunflower seed per hole. A light application of fertilizer mixed in at planting time will encourage stronger root growth.
