Garden Seed Starting Calculator | Homesteading GuideIf you need help when is the best and the safest time to plant you seeds indoors, when to transplant it outdoors and when to direct sow seeds in your garden, we’ve found a very helpful tool for you and that is the Free Seed Starting Calculator from the PlanterTomato.com. It calculates the planting dates for 45 varieties of vegetables that sure to help plan your gardening with ease and convenience.
Here’s what you need to do :
1. Download the Excel Spreadsheet of the Free Seed Starting Calculator. Click here to download the Free Seed Starting Calculator.
2. Find out the last frost date in your area. Click here the find out the last frost date of your area. Just click on your state and find the nearby city. Choose the Last Frost Date or Spring and use that date on the calculator.
3. Enter your Last Frost Date or Spring into the yellow box of Seed Calculator spreadsheet and it will automatically calculate the planting dates for 45 varieties of vegetables.
Notes: The first column shaded in blue is the date you can start your seeds indoors and the second column which is also shaded in blue is the date you can transplant seedling into your garden.
The last column that is shaded in green is the date for direct sowing or the date that you can plant your seed outdoors.

There are some seeds that are almost always directly sown into the garden, just like carrots, and radishes, so there’s no date for indoor seed starting. And the Brussels Sprouts seeds are hard to germinate that is why it is always transplanted , so there’s no direct sow date for this.
