The main reason most people don’t bother prepping for disasters is that they simply don’t think a major disaster will ever happen in their town. Although I think they’re probably wrong, this attitude is understandable. If you’ve lived your entire life without going through an earthquake, hurricane, civil unrest, hyperinflation, or anything like that, it’s hard to imagine it happening.

But here’s where they’re looking at it wrong: When preppers talk about disasters, they’re not just talking about the end of the world, they’re also talking about personal disasters. Imagine you lose your job, you get in a car accident and someone sues you, a member of your family falls ill and you spend everything you have on medical bills, etc. Personal disasters like these are frighteningly common.

You see, when preppers say, “the end of the world,” they’re also referring to the end of their world. The end of their lives as they have been. The food and supplies they stored for major disasters can also be used to help them weather financial disasters. That is just one of many reasons to start prepping. This article on Prepper’s Will expands on this topic and explains the various meanings of “doomsday” and the many reasons why prepping is such a good idea.
