Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (almond oil will work too, but it will not have the delicious coconut smell)

How to Make The Sugar Scrub:

All you have to do is simply mix the coconut oil (if the coconut oil is hard you can heat it up in the microwave) with the white sugar. Stir until combined.

The sugar scrub should be soft and oily, but not too dry.

Add more of one or the other until you have a perfect consistency.

You may also add your essential oils now. Lavender is calming, peppermint wakes you up, and eucalyptus is soothing.

Now your sugar scrub is ready to use. Enjoy as it sloughs off dead skin cells while moisturizing the skin. Try not to eat it, I know it tastes great, but all that sugar can’t be good for you.

How is sugar scrub used? I love ebay’s definition:

To obtain the best results from exfoliation with a sugar scrub, apply the product while taking a shower. First, wash your skin with soap or body wash and rinse it well. Afterwards, apply a sufficient amount of sugar scrub to wet skin over your entire body, massaging in a circular motion to allow the granules to remove dead skin cells. Finally, rinse off well. This makes your skin look and feel refreshed and healthy. [full article here]

BUT WAIT – THERE’S MORE! In order to add pretty stripes to your sugar scrub when it’s in the mason jar like mine, here’s what you’ll need to do:

Divide the sugar scrub into two bowls. Leave the first bowl alone, it’s already white.

Take your second bowl and add one or two drops of food coloring. Stir until combined. Only use a few drops, you don’t want it to stain.

Now take your mason jar and spoon a spoonful of the white scrub into the bottom of the jar.

Push down the scrub with the spoon. Add some more of the white until the layer is about 2/3 of an inch and press again.

Now add the colored scrub and press, until it reaches about 2/3 of an inch.

Repeat until there is no more sugar scrub left.

Now you can fully enjoy your sugar scrub, and it’s pretty enough to give as a gift. Hooray!
